At the White House’s request, Regent University professor of politics, Dr. Mark David Hall, reflects on the shared heritage and faith of America’s Founders.
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, a renewed effort is underway to tell the story of the nation’s founding with clarity, honesty, and depth. The Story of America: The Faith of Our Founders is part of a new history series produced through a partnership between the White House’s “Salute to America 250 Task Force” and Hillsdale College (or notable academic institutions).
This ambitious project is designed to recount how a new nation, whose people, armed with conviction and courage, defeated the world’s greatest empire and established a republic unlike any the world had known. While many episodes in the series focus on defining events—battles fought, institutions formed, and leaders raised up, this installment turns its attention to a historic dimension that is too often minimized or even ignored: faith.
“The Faith of Our Founders” video features Dr. Mark David Hall, Professor of Politics at Regent University’s Robertson School of Government. As one of the nation’s leading scholars on religion and America’s founding, Hall explores the spiritual convictions that shaped our early leaders’ vision for liberty, law, and self-government in 1776.
Drawing on decades of rigorous scholarship, Dr. Hall explains why faith was not incidental to the American “experiment” but foundational to it. At a moment when history is often filtered or even altered through modern revisionism, he offers careful scholarship and moral clarity.
Dr. Hall’s contribution ensures that as America reflects on its shared heritage, the faith of its Founders is neither forgotten nor distorted—but understood in its proper historical and cultural context. This video is not merely a look backward. It is an invitation to remember who we are—and why it matters.
